Winter Wonderland (Mears, MI)

There was over a foot of snow outside the lake house and we’d already had our fill of sledding and shoveling — we were forced inside for the rest of the day.  So why not play some Monkeyball?  But really, with so many Monkeyball enthusiasts under one roof, we really didn’t need an excuse to ball.  It was off to the basement for the second annual indoor tournament.

For the second straight year, Andy Frushour beat Dan Kidle in the finals.  With the Commish’s racks of 9, 10 and 11 points, young Kidle didn’t really have a chance to recover.  The win was Frushour’s 11th career title and his 4th by beating Kidle in the championship match.

The real story of the day, though, was the emergence of Marykay Kidle.  Grandma K may act uninterested in playing, but she’s got skillz, just ask her eldest son.  MK surprised Andy Kidle in pool play and almost knocked off Dan on her way to the Winter Wonderland semifinals.  After leading son-in-law Frushour late in game one of the semis, Frushour dropped a big rack and rode the momentum to the championship game.

And even though Katie McFadden went 0-3 in the MB tournament, she did win the unofficial Board Game Olympics championship for the day.  After MB, Katie won the Winter Survival Exercise, both games of Wits and Wagers (and three out of four for the weekend) and a few rounds of Bananagrams.  The Freak better watch out — his bride-to-be may be staking claim to his title of Brain Game Champ.

This tournament should be reviewed for accuracy. I swear half of Frushours pictures look photoshopped. Honestly does anyone believe he could grow a beard that fresh?

  2. Andy Frushour says:

The beard is real, and it is spectacular. Come see it for yourself at the MHS tournament on Saturday.

Going up against a beard like that I didn’t stand a chance.
