Is there a better way to start 2009 than by having a Monkeyball tournament? A few of the regulars and a few rookies joined the ranks today to play. It was a cold day in Birmingham, Alab., and we started the fun at 2:30. Rookie Melodye Guidroz lost her first match to Elaine Dameron and rookie Steve Guidroz lost his first match to long-time player, Sean Dameron. Randy Nelms beat 2nd time player Melanie Singleton and went on to lose to Sean. Mother-in-law vs. daughter-in-law, Elaine and Missy Dameron, proved to be a tough game; Missy snuck by with a 15-11 win, then went on to beat father-in-law, Tom Dameron 15-0. Missy’s doom came in the match up with Kevin Singleton — this match is always fun to watch — but Kevin proved successful once again (pregnancy didn’t help out Missy like it did champ Michelle Salmon the previous week)!

It all came down to Sean and Kevin — SoMoCo practice buddies and arch rivals! Kevin smashed Sean earlier 15-0, sending Sean to the losers bracket to play and defeat Adam Vines 15-9, then they came back to face each other in the finals. Sean scraped by on the first game, 16-14, which led to the final showdown. Sean came out victorious and left Kevin aching for the title again! Sean’s started 2009 off to a good start!!
