Mason HS Indoor Classic 3 (Mason, MI)
Twelve months ago, Jim “Snoop” Wenzel took the Monkeyball world by storm in winning the Mason Indoor Classic. In MB’s first event of 2012, the smooth 6′7″ baller proved the 2011 W was no fluke as he topped Casey Frushour in the championship of the third annual Mason Indoor Classic.
The event featured 28 players, including 15 of the World’s top 40. To further show the event’s depth, three of the four semifinalists were three of the four worst seeds heading into the championship bracket. Wenzel dispatched Ryan LePeak in one semi, while Frushour bested Tony Fuller. There were also four 12-Monkeys on the day, including one by Manuel Tello, one by LePeak, and two from Keith Hagen.
I wish I could write more about the exciting three-game championship match (at least I assume it was exciting), but very few people stuck around to watch. And of those who were there, four were playing a mean game of Spikeball. From what we hear, though, Snoop played his classic style to take home the championship: a smooth stoke, with a high release, netting big racks. An Okemos native, there must be something about playing in his high school rival’s gym that has led him to the back-to-back Mason titles.
Champion: Jim Wenzel
Runner-Up: Casey Frushour
# of Players: 28
Nice event Andy. Snoop is a great guy but man do I hate playing him.
Two things
1- If #14 and #15 both have a WRS of 25.4, are they tied for #14?
2- All day something felt missing… Oh yeah.. .I know… Andi O., Deano or Chuck. Just didn’t have that MB major feel without ya.
Wanted to come, but just got back from Vegas the day before and was exhausted. DNO will be back for MB8 or a satelite tournament near you:)
Dean…does ’satelite’ mean ‘Alabama’? MBx coming soon; about time y’all made it down.
mbX3 is February 25th…details will be sent out soon. come on down to alabama…unless you’re skeered.
I’d come to Bama, but we always have a basketball tournament at our school that weekend. Some year maybe…
